EVENT ANNOUNCEMENT

The Philadelphia Chapter of the Ukrainian Engineers' Society of America invites all of its members and their family and friends to a picnic on Sunday, September 22, 2002.

The picnic will be held at the Ukrainian American Sports Center - Tryzub. See Tryzub's internet web site for directions at www.tryzubsportscenter.org

The picnic will begin at 12:00 and admission will be $5 per person. This fee covers admission, food, and drinks.

New York City Chapter and Board member Myrosia Dragan, PE of TAMS Consultants, Inc will be presenting a paper titled "The Emergency Reconstruction of Goose Creek Bridge" at the International Bridge Conference being held in Pittsburgh from June 10th to June 12th. The paper's abstract is as follows:

"Only a single, winter construction season was allowed for reconstruction of the side spans of the Goose Creek Bridge over a tidal waterway. Construction proceeded directly adjacent to the existing bascule span, kept operational. Typical construction time was reduced by use of precast concrete elements and a non-conventional abutment."

The New York City and New Jersey Chapters of UESA will hold a Pub Night on Friday, May 17th at "Brewsky's" (43 East 7th Street) in New York City. The unofficial start time will be 6:30PM, but since it's also the first day of the 7th Street Festival, we encourage everyone to enjoy the event to the fullest extent. The New York City Chapter of the Ukrainian Engineers' Society of America will hold a Chapter Meeting and Wine & Cheese Reception at the UESA domivka located on the 4th floor of the Ukrainian Institute of America (2 East 79th Street, NYC) on Friday, May 31st. The meeting will begin at 7:30 pm.

The purpose of the meeting will be to casually discuss plans for the coming year and for chapter members to get to know each other. All Chapter members are invited. It is with deep sadness that we pass along the news that long time UESA member Ostap Balaban has recently passed away. He was president of the the national organization during 1954 and 1955.

The 2002 Summit of Ukrainian-American Organizations took place this weekend at the Ukrainian National Association Estate Soyuzivka in Kerhonkson, New York. Over 60 leading representatives of Ukrainian-American organizations attended the summit to discuss the topic of re-engaging the "youth" in our organizations.

The Philadelphia Branch of the Ukrainian Engineers' Society of America held its annual Engineers Ball with presentation of debutantes. Eight debutantes were presented this year. Over 300 people attended the dinner and an additional 200 people attended the dance which was held afterwords.
